2014 ADOPT A PARK – MCSHANE PARK @ 8699 HERITAGE

DMC adopted McShane Park as a part of Mayor Mike Duggans 2014 adopt a park program. DMC was responsible for maintaining the upkeep of the park every 10-14 days. There are approximately 270 Parks in the City of Detroit. Under a new plan announced by, Mayor Mike Duggan 180 parks will be maintained by the city and 65 will be adopted by business and community groups. Many of them will be cared for also by churches.

They will mow and weed every 10-14 days and pick up any trash or debris from May 1 until October 31. This initiative will make it easier for the City of Detroit to manage such a large number of parks and will ensure Detroiters have a beautiful place to spend time as weather warms up. Under this initiative of Mayor Mike Duggan’s initiative for Adopt-a-Park 2014, DMC volunteered to be a Community Partner and adopted McShane Park in the summer of 2014. DMC was responsible for maintaining the park and initiatives included but were not limited to:

  • Removing garbage from the Park
  • Painting Structures as required
  • Minor Repairs of the Play Structure
  • Regular lawn mowing
  • Edging and Trimming

DMC was the proud Community Partner and winner of “July Challenge Winner” in the Summer of 2014 City of Detroit Adopt-a-Park Program for McShane Park
